Telephone services in Turkmenistan are runned by Türkmentelekom, a recently created corporation that started a deep process of renewal of the telephone network of the country. The progressive introduction of digital systems and optical fibre cables actually improved the effi-ciency of the service, principally as regards international and interur-ban connections.
To telephone from Italy to Turkmenistan it is necessary to dial the international code 00993, followed by the area code and by the inte-rurban code of the city, consultable in the special Table.
To telephone from Turkmenistan to other countries it is necessary to dial the code 8 and to wait some seconds for the continuous tone. Just at this moment it is possible to dial the international code 10, followed by the code of the country and finally by the code of the city and by the number of the receiver. To telephone to Italy therefore it is necessary to dial the code 8, to wait some seconds and, after the appearance of the continuous tone, to dial 1039 and therefore the national area code followed by the number of the receiver. Also it is possible to make international telephone calls by means of an ope-rator. For receiving information about it it is possible to call the num-ber 079.
To make interurban telephone calls in Turkmenistan it is necessary to dial the code 8 and to wait also in this case for continuous tone, audible after some seconds. Just at this moment it is possible to dial after two zeros the area code, followed by the interurban code and the number of the receiver. For receiveing information about the pos-sibility of making interurban telephone calls by means of an opera-tor it is possible to call the numbers 071, 072 e 073.
